Im Oktober sind zwei gehaltvolle featured papers auf dem G+C Blog erschienen, auf die wir im Blog noch einmal hinweisen wollen. Simon Ganahl publizierte die schriftlich edierte Fassung eines ausführlichen Interviews mit Erkki Huhtamo, der als einer der Begründer und wichtigsten Vertreter der Medienarchäologie gilt. Ausgehend von Daniel Deferts Autobiografie, widmet sich Florian Kappeler in seinem Beitrag hingegen der Rolle des Widerstands in Foucaults Denken der Macht. Warum kommen jene subalternen Gruppen der Gesellschaft, denen Foucaults politisches Engagement in den 1970er Jahren gilt, in seinen genealogischen Studien nicht selbst zu Wort?

"Foucault revisited" lautet der Titel einer Tagung, die vom 4. bis 5. November 2016 am Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Universität Wien stattfindet. Since its launch in spring 2013, the G+C Blog has continuously developed from a typical blog with rather short posts into a reviewed open access journal. This wasn't really our own active decision, but the platform happened to take this turn. In the last three years, we have published more than forty reviewed open access papers (all with DOIs), organized several international workshops and conferences, and edited three special issues. That's why we thought it's time to adjust the design and structure of the G+C Blog accordingly…

The G+C Blog has just published a new paper by Robert Gehl on "Reverse Engineering and Genealogy." Gehl, who teaches communication at the University of Utah, articulates the practice of tracing software back to preceding versions with Foucault's history of the present. His article explores the theoretical bases for reverse engineering, drawing mainly on software engineering literature, and considers the ways in which this technical approach might inform genealogical inquiry along Foucauldian lines. The paper is based on research conducted for Gehl's book Reverse Engineering Social Media (2014).

Preparing for a Critical Genealogies Workshop, to be held at the University of Denver on June 17–18, 2016, G+C Blog editor Colin Koopman conducted a group interview with some of the event's participants, namely Verena Erlenbusch, Simon Ganahl, Robert W. Gehl, Thomas Nail, and Perry Zurn. The methodological discussion focuses less on the interpretation of Foucault's work and more on the critical and transformative redeployment of Foucault's philosophical toolkit. What is most usable in Foucault's genealogical method for today's critical tasks? What is most unusable, or frustrating, in Foucault's library for us today? And who else might we turn to alongside Foucault for our critical, philosophical, and historical energies?
