This article aims to make a comparison between two fundamental concepts of the philosophies of Foucault and Heidegger: dispositive and Gestell. Based on the assumption that the two terms identify a type of disposition I undertake an analysis of the similarities between the notions. For this purpose the following essay is divided into two parts: in the first given the interviews and texts of the secondary bibliography I examine the plausibility of the relationship between Heidegger and Foucault. In the second I characterize dispositive and Gestell in order to approximate them.

In the coming age of urban sentience and smart things we imagine information coursing through our cities and devices. Yet our buildings and infrastructures and mediated objects have always embodied forms of "smartness." In this lecture and public talk with Simon Ganahl Shannon Mattern explores how design can function as epistemological inquiry. Thinking across different scales she considers how our designed things systems and services can embody what we know and value.

Am 5. Januar 2016 verstarb der 1925 geborene französische Komponist und Dirigent Pierre Boulez in Baden-Baden. Viel wurde in den vergangenen Tagen über sein Werk und Leben berichtet. Für großes Aufsehen hatte er in Deutschland zum ersten Mal 1976 gesorgt als er zusammen mit dem Opern- und Filmregisseur Patrice Chéreau in Bayreuth den Jahrhundert-Ring inszenierte. Damals hagelte es aus den Rängen der konservativen Wagner-Gemeinde viel Kritik es kam zu Protesten und Unterschriftenaktionen gegen das französische Duo sowie einer Meuterei des Orchesters. Es gab aber auch zahlreiche Bewunderer dieser kompromisslosen Neuinterpretation und unter ihnen war Michel Foucault der von Boulez persönlich zu den Festspielen eingeladen worden war.
